I really like spinning gradients. Please meet the newest member of the gradient line of colorways here at Porpoise Fur: Mr. Roy
I have a protocol for dyeing fiber that is pretty well defined:
Step 1: decide on colorway
Step 2: pick a base fiber
Step 3: soak fiber
Step 4: apply color/acid/heat
Step 5: cool
Step 6: rinse and dry
All of those steps are pretty self-explanatory, right? But then there's Step 7.
Step 7: check fiber over and prep for packaging.
For most wool fibers, this step can be mostly visual - there's picking off bits of fiber that have gone awry in the dye process, a bit of fluffing, pulling off any matted ends. But for some fibers, the pre-packaging prep plays a much bigger role in the product that goes out the door.
Fibers, for example, like silk...
