Two Color Shawl Spin-along/Knit-along
(formerly the Penrose Tile SAL/KAL)
A while back, a customer asked for a custom order of two complementary colorways so she could knit the Penrose Tile Shawl by Carol Feller. Thinking about colorways that went together well was an
absolute blast, and even after I sent off her order, I kept thinking about combinations. I've been so obsessed with the idea of spinning for this shawl, but there's no way I can do justice to the
number of combinations that are possible, so I'm going to throw it open to everyone out there - let's do a
Penrose Tile Two Color Shawl SAL-KAL (spin-along/knit-along)!
Start date - whenever you like!
Finish date - whenever you're finished. If you get the spinning done quickly and take a break before knitting the shawl, that's fine. If you want to join up now and start, it's all good. There is no set schedule for this project, so join in as and when you see fit!
Fiber - as part of the group nature of this project, you must include at least one Porpoise Fur fiber from to participate. It can be any fiber you like, used in combination with fiber from any other vendor, OR you can get a special custom order (see below).
Other rules - there aren't any other hard and fast requirements for participating, but much of the action will be happening in the Porpoise Pod Ravelry group in the stickied SAL-KAL thread. Please do come join us over on Ravelry if you are a member, and if you're not a member yet, it's a fantastic resource for all things involving wool, yarn, knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, dyeing...you should join!
OK, let's get to some knitty gritty details:
The Pattern - the Penrose Tile Shawl pattern was designed by Carol Feller, and published in the second issue of PLY magazine. Sadly, it is not available (as far as I know) as an individual pattern. You can purchase a single issue of PLY from the PLY website directly ($21 US). You may also be able to purchase a single issue from their UK distributor, The Threshing Barn - call them directly at 015396 20474 as they still have a few copies of Issue 2 left.
The Fiber - as mentioned above, you are welcome to use any Porpoise Fur fiber that strikes your fancy, along with fibers from other dyers in combination. However, I've been thinking a lot about color combinations that would work for this project, and I'm going to be offering special custom dyed lots for this project.
Each custom order will include two colorways - 4 oz/113 gr each of a variegated colorway and a complementary semi-solid. These combos will be available on Shetland (£19), Bluefaced Leicester (£20) or my super-soft and luxurious 60% BFL/20% baby alpaca/20% tussah silk blend (£24).
Feel free to email me with any questions (email@example.com), or post in the Ravelry thread. And I can't wait to see all your projects!
